About Naukuchiatal
Located at a distance of 24 kilometres from Nainital and about around 4 kilometres from Bhim-Tal is the immensely beautiful and charming Naukuchiatal. Literally translating into nine-cornered lake, this majestic place located at an altitude of 1,220 meters above sea level in the Nainital district of Indian state of Uttarakhand, and surrounded by dense forests on all sides is a heaven on earth for nature lovers.
The lake with an overall length of 1 kilometre and depth of 40 meters is a very important tourist destination. This mystical lake which is constantly fed by underwater springs is one of the deepest lakes in the Greater Nainital area.
Naukuchiatal surrounded by green slops and dense oak forests is one of the most picturesque lakes in and around Nainital which attracts large number of visitors who are enchanted as much as by the beautiful lake as they are by the calm and serene ambience this place offers.
There is a very important and interesting legend associated with this small and tranquil lake village. It is believed that one glimpse of all the nine corners of the lake with your feet on earth can help you attain nirvana as you will dissolve into a cloud of smoke and ascend towards heaven. This though, makes it abundantly clear that it is impossible for you to view all the nine corners of the lake at once with your feet planted on the ground.
This picturesque lake surrounded by greeneries on all the side is the prime attraction of Naukuchiatal. However, it would be grave injustice to limit the charm of this splendid hill station solely to its pristine and picturesque lake. This breathtakingly beautiful lake village has been truly blessed by nature and you can indulge in a lot of activities and adventure on your trip to this heavenly place.
There are quite a few other tourist attractions in Naukuchiatal which can do a very good job of revitalising and rejuvenating your body and soul. More importantly, the blissful weather the year around means that you can visit this charming place anytime of the year.
Any good Naukuchiatal travel guide will tell you that boating is the most popular activity here owing to its lake. Apart from boating, you can also indulge in other popular activities like paragliding, fishing, angling, etc. If you have time, you can also visit Bhim-Tal which is just four kilometres away and is described as one of the most beautiful and famous lakes in and around Nainital.
