About Chail

Chail is a lovely hill station located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The former summer capital of princely state of Patiala, It falls at a distance of 44 km from Shimla and 45 km from Solan. Located in the Shivalik region of Himachal Pradesh and overlooking the Sutlej valley, this charming hill station enjoys cool and pleasant climate throughout the year.

The spectacular hill station never mesmerises to charm visitors with its fruit-laden orchards, sylvan pine valleys and dazzling views of snow-capped Shivalik peaks in the background.

It was founded by Maharaja of Patiala Bhupinder Singh who resolved to build a hill station better than Shimla after he was banished from entering it after his elopement with the daughter of a high ranking military officer of British India.

There are as such are many things–most notably the Chail Military School and Cricket ground– that serves as an instant reminder of its past connection to the royalty.

Chail along with Shimla and Kufri (another hugely popular tourist destination known for skiing) form the Golden Triangle of Himachal Pradesh.

This picturesque hill station despite from being close to Shimla lacks the hectic pace and crowd of Shimla.

Chail despite being a small hill station has a lot of tourist spots and places of interest. First and foremost is the best Palace which is known for its magnificent architecture.

Chail cricket ground is the highest cricket ground in the world. Chail Military School and Gurudwara are other important tourist attractions of this beautiful hill station.

Chail situated at an altitude of 2,250 meters is surrounded by the forests of chir pine and gigantic deodar trees. Its lush green outfields, captivating view of the snow-capped mountains and scenic natural beauty is a literal paradise for a hard core nature lover keen on exploring nature’s bounty or the adventurous lot looking for a life altering experience.

Angling is a popular adventure sport you can engage in at the Giri River which flows few kilometres away from Chail.
